HERB: SAVORY – SUMMER

(SATUREJA HORTENSIS)

An annual with a similar flavour to thyme but with a peppery piquancy.

Used in stews, salads, sauces, and pies – incorporate into cooking early to allow the flavour to

settle and not overpower.

Has been called the herb of love in the past and was used as an aphrodisiac.

Grows approx. 50cm high.

Frost tender.

Insect repellent.

Moist, well-drained and loose soil.

GROWING TIPS

seed germinates in 14 – 21 days.

The fine seed is scattered on the surface of the growing medium and lightly watered in.

To keep them moist it can help to bag up the tray and leave in a warm but not hot spot.
