Ethiopian Kale (cabbage) a hardy, fast-growing, nutritious leafy green ideal for Australian gardens, especially during cool seasons (autumn to spring). It thrives in full sun, rich soil, and will grow in all Australian climates with a 50-day maturity, often used in salads or as a stir-fry green.
- Best planted in autumn, winter, or early spring. In warm regions, target March to September.
- Growing Conditions: Thrives in full sun or part shade in well-drained, nutrient-rich soil enriched with compost and manure.
- Spacing: Space plants 30–45cm apart to allow them to grow over 1 metre tall.
- Watering and Feeding: Keep the soil consistently moist. Use a organic compost tea every few weeks to encourage lush leaf growth.
- Harvesting: Use a "cut-and-come-again" method, harvesting outer leaves (10-15cm long) first to allow the center to keep producing, often from autumn through to spring.
